NBA calendar missing on Android? Check visibility and sync first

If your NBA subscription appears on Google Calendar's website but not on your Android phone, check the account, calendar visibility and sync settings before adding it again. A hidden calendar and a missing subscription are different problems; another file import can create duplicates instead of fixing either one.

These steps are for the Google Calendar app on Android, not Samsung Calendar or another calendar app. They follow Google's Android sync troubleshooting guide, checked October 28, 2026. Device settings can vary by manufacturer.

1. Establish whether the games are already in your Google account

Open Google Calendar on the web on a computer. Use the Google account you intend to use on your phone, then look under Other calendars for your NBA calendar. Select it and check an upcoming matchup.

  • The games appear on the website: work through the Android display and sync checks below. Do not add the same subscription again as the first troubleshooting step.
  • The calendar is missing on the website too: check whether you subscribed using a different Google account. If you never added it, follow Add NBA games to Google Calendar.
  • The calendar appears, but one game is missing or has a different time: compare it with the current team schedule. A missing game or a feed refresh delay is not the same as the entire calendar being hidden on your phone.

For a new subscription, Google documents Other calendars → Add other calendars (+) → From URL on a computer. Use the .ics address from the calendar subscriptions directory, not a team webpage. Google's public-calendar instructions say you cannot add a new subscription in the mobile app.

2. Make the calendar visible in the Android app

Open the Google Calendar app and check that the intended Google account is present. Then:

  1. Tap Menu in the top left.
  2. Find the NBA calendar's name.
  3. Make sure the box to the left of its name is checked.
  4. Navigate to the same upcoming game date you checked on the website.

Google lists this visibility check separately from syncing. An unchecked calendar can hide games that are already available; selecting it does not create another subscription.

If you use several Google accounts, match the calendar to the account where you found it on the website. A subscription added to one account is not evidence that it was also added to another.

3. Check account sync, then the calendar's settings

In your Android device's Settings, Google's documented path is:

  1. Open Passwords, passkeys & accounts. On some devices, Google instead points to About phone → Google Account.
  2. Select the relevant Google account.
  3. Open Account sync.
  4. Make sure sync is on for Calendar.

Next, in the Google Calendar app, open Menu → Settings and select the calendar that is missing. Tap Show more if needed. If that calendar has a Sync setting, make sure it is on.

Do not assume every calendar has that switch: Google says the primary calendar, normally called Events, does not show it. Use the settings actually available for the affected calendar rather than changing an unrelated one. Google also notes that events can take some time to appear after sync is enabled.

4. Refresh the app without treating it as an instant feed update

Check that your phone has a working internet connection and that the Google Calendar app is updated. Google's Android instructions provide Menu → Refresh to manually sync the app.

There are two different places an update can be waiting:

  • Website shows the game, phone does not: the phone's visibility, account or app-sync path is the place to investigate.
  • Website and phone both show an older tipoff: refreshing the phone alone does not establish that Google has fetched a newer version of the subscribed NBA feed.

A phone refresh is not a promise of an immediate external-subscription refresh. Compare with the device-local NBA calendar before making plans, and do not repeatedly import downloaded files as a substitute for subscription troubleshooting.

5. Avoid destructive fixes while narrowing the problem

If basic checks fail, continue with Google's official troubleshooting guide. It includes device storage and Calendar storage checks. Google says the app stops syncing when the device runs out of storage.

Do not start by clearing the app's data. Google warns that this can lose unsynced event information that is not visible on the computer, and reserves it for when other steps have failed. Likewise, deleting a personal calendar or clearing all its events is not an appropriate way to make an NBA subscription appear.

If earlier attempts left games visible twice, use the duplicate-game cleanup guide to identify the source calendars before removing anything.

Confirm the result with one known game

Return to the same upcoming matchup on both the website and your phone. Confirm that the intended calendar is selected and the game appears. If it appears but the time or date differs, use the time-zone troubleshooting guide rather than adding another copy.

You can always view the NBA schedule without changing your Google account. NBA Calendar publishes schedule feeds; it cannot inspect your phone's sync settings or recover unsynced personal events.
