How to add NBA games to Google Calendar

If you want NBA tipoffs next to your own plans, add a calendar subscription rather than importing a downloaded file. A subscription lets Google Calendar check the published feed again when games change. An imported file is only a copy of the schedule at the moment you downloaded it.

You can follow all NBA games or choose a single team. For a quick look without adding anything to your account, use the interactive NBA calendar or today’s schedule.

1. Choose the games you want

Open the calendar subscriptions page and find All NBA games or your team. Copy its Calendar file link. It should be a public HTTPS address ending in .ics.

The full-league feed is:

For example, the Boston Celtics calendar contains games involving Boston, rather than every NBA matchup. Following one team keeps a personal calendar much less crowded.

2. Add the URL in Google Calendar on a computer

Google’s official instructions for adding a public calendar by URL use the desktop website:

  1. Open Google Calendar in a computer browser.
  2. Next to Other calendars, select Add other calendars (+).
  3. Choose From URL.
  4. Paste the HTTPS calendar-file address.
  5. Select Add calendar.

The subscription appears under Other calendars. This is different from Subscribe to calendar, which can ask for another Google user’s calendar, and different from importing a file from your computer.

Google says new subscriptions must be added using a computer web browser, not the Google Calendar mobile app. Afterward, check the calendar’s visibility in the app and that you are using the same Google account.

3. Check your time zone

The feed stores confirmed tipoffs as UTC timestamps. Your calendar uses its time-zone settings to display them. If a game looks an hour early or late, check the calendar’s time zone before importing a second copy.

A late US game can fall on the following morning in another country. That is why the interactive schedule shows device-local times, while the dated schedule pages explicitly use Eastern dates for navigation.

What happens when a game changes?

NBA Calendar rebuilds its feeds from the published schedule. Google Calendar controls when it checks a subscribed feed again, so a subscription is not an instant-update guarantee. Keep the original URL rather than repeatedly downloading and importing a replacement file. Repeated imports can leave you with duplicate or stale events.

Games without an announced tipoff remain visible on the schedule pages as Time TBA, but are omitted from calendar feeds until a time is available. Unannounced Cup and playoff matchups are not filled in with guesses. Feeds provide tipoff times without a fixed end time because game length varies; your calendar app may choose its own display duration.

Before travelling or making viewing plans, check the current team schedule and listed broadcaster, then confirm availability with your TV provider. A channel listing does not establish that a game is available in every region or subscription package.

If you prefer to keep everything in the browser

The main calendar lets you search teams, switch between Calendar and List, and share a link containing a date and team selection. You do not need to subscribe or enable browser notifications to use it.
