How to add an NBA team to Apple Calendar on iPhone and Mac

To keep your team's tipoffs alongside your own plans, add its calendar URL as a subscription in Apple Calendar. Choose iCloud when setting it up if you want the subscription on your other Apple devices. Opening a downloaded schedule and importing its events is not the same setup.

This guide follows Apple's iCloud calendar subscription instructions, checked October 21, 2026. Apple's instructions distinguish iOS 26 and later from iOS 18 and earlier; use the steps matching your device.

Choose your team's calendar URL

Start with the NBA Calendar subscription directory, find your team, and copy its Calendar file link. Choose the team feed rather than the league feed if you do not want every matchup in your calendar.

For example, the Boston Celtics schedule has this subscription address:

text
https://nbacalendar.com/calendars/boston-celtics.ics

Use the .ics address, not the team schedule webpage. For every team instead, the league address is:

text
https://nbacalendar.com/calendars/nba.ics

You only need one subscription to the same feed. If it is already visible through iCloud on another device, check that setup before adding it again.

On iPhone or iPad

iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and later

  1. Open Calendar, then tap Calendars.
  2. Tap Add Calendar, then Add Subscription Calendar.
  3. Paste your team's calendar-file URL and tap Find.
  4. Give it a recognizable title, such as “Celtics games,” and choose a color.
  5. Next to Account, choose iCloud.
  6. Tap Done.

iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 and earlier

Apple documents a slightly different confirmation flow:

  1. Open Calendar and tap Calendars at the bottom.
  2. Tap Add Calendar, then Add Subscription Calendar.
  3. Paste the calendar-file URL and tap Subscribe.
  4. Enter a name and choose a color.
  5. Choose iCloud from the Account menu and select Add.

For the subscription to appear across devices, Apple says to sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each one. If games are missing on a second device, check the account and whether the calendar is selected in its calendar list before creating another subscription.

On Mac

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. Choose File → New Calendar Subscription.
  3. Paste your team's .ics URL and click Subscribe.
  4. Enter a name and choose a color.
  5. Next to Location, choose iCloud.
  6. Click OK.

The iCloud location is the important cross-device choice in Apple's Mac setup instructions. Do not assume that adding a subscription only on your Mac automatically puts it on your phone.

Check for schedule updates without adding another copy

A subscription can retrieve changes from its source, but it is not a promise that a new tipoff will appear immediately. The published feed and your calendar app's refresh are separate steps.

On Mac, Apple's refresh guide provides two useful controls:

  • To request a refresh, choose View → Refresh Calendars.
  • To change a subscribed calendar's refresh setting, Control-click its name → Get Info → Auto-refresh, then choose an option.

Apple also advises checking the internet connection and the calendar's address if a warning symbol appears. In Get Info, confirm that the address still points to the intended NBA Calendar .ics feed. Repeatedly importing downloaded files is not a substitute for fixing a subscription.

If games appear twice, first look for both a team subscription and a league subscription, or the same subscription added more than once. Hide one calendar temporarily to identify the overlapping source before removing anything. If you previously imported games into a personal calendar, take care not to delete your unrelated events while cleaning up that copy.

What to expect from the NBA feed

NBA Calendar's feeds contain announced tipoffs. Games marked Time TBA are omitted until a start time is available, and unannounced matchups are not invented. An empty gap in a subscription therefore does not, by itself, prove that the subscription failed.

Confirmed start times are stored in UTC; compare the displayed time with the device-local interactive calendar and check your calendar's time-zone settings if something looks wrong. The feed does not specify a fixed game end time, so an event's displayed length is not a prediction of when the game will finish.

For a last check before making plans, open your team's schedule. You can also inspect the TV schedule listings, but a listed broadcaster does not guarantee availability in your region or TV package.
